Apo On The Wall by BJ PATINO
I like the poem entitled "Apo On the Wall" by BJ Patino because it talks about our history, which specifically the martial law period. Reading this poem will provide you an idea of what martial law was like back then. This poem really impressed me because you will need a wide analysis to understand the poem. APO symbolizes Ferdinand Marcos which is our former president who declared the martial law. In reading the poem, you will figure it out how martial law affects the life of the Filipinos. I was also impressed with this poem because it includes the father-son relationship to make the poem more meaningful.
The message I got from this poem is an understanding of what martial law was like back then. As a Filipino, it's our responsibility to know the history of our beloved country. It's also important to know the experiences of many Filipinos when martial law was declared. In this poem, I was amazed when the father said to his son that there's no place for a boy, only men. I guess he said this to protect his son from the deeper meaning of this world. His son will not understand until he is mature enough and ready to understand what the world really looks like. I agree with the last line of the poem, which is "I know what you're doing" because God knows everything.
Reading the poem, I picked up new knowledge and learned a ton about martial law. In the poem, "Apo on the wall" clearly represented our late president Ferdinand Marcos because of his impact in the history of the Philippines. I learned that he was great although I wasn't alive during his reign. He is greatly admired in our country, but of course there is a great number of Filipinos who despise him because of martial law which in their perspective is a frightening system where there is not a daylight of freedom.
I liked the poem entitled "Apo on the Wall" written by Bj Patino because he described the past about the time of our former president Ferdinand Marcos about martial law and as a Filipino we must have enough knowledge about the past of our country. I learned a lot about the past of our country. So, as a student I would also recommend it to my friends and fellow students.
